Understanding Your 2022 Florida Nursing License Renewal
- For busy Florida nurses juggling incredible strains on the overall healthcare system, little time is left for sifting through rules and requirements for the 2022 license renewal period.
- An inactive license means you are no longer legally allowed to work in the state of Florida as a nurse.
- Nursing CE Central has a full breakdown of top questions, deadlines, requirements, and consequences of missing your renewal deadline for the 2022 Florida nursing license renewal period.
As nurses across the country battle against staffing shortages, burnout, and an all-time high of demands and strains on the overall healthcare system, little time is left for sifting through rules and requirements for license renewal!
For Florida nurses whose licenses expire during a chaotic 2022, a lapse in licensure not only means a potentially big headache dealing with the Florida Board of Nursing for a reactivation, but also the inability to continue working in the meantime.
That's why our Nursing CE Central team has a full breakdown of top questions, deadlines, requirements, and consequences of missing your renewal deadline for the 2022 Florida nursing license renewal period.
The license reactivation process comes with additional fees and nurses must still meet continuing education requirements.
1. How can I renew my license with the Florida Board of Nursing this year?
Florida nurses can renew their license online by visiting www.flhealthsource.gov and clicking the 'Renew a License' button. Once you log into your dashboard, a 'Renew My License' option will populate at least 90 days before your license expiration date. The two renewal deadlines for 2022 are April 30th and July 31st, depending on the exact expiration date a nurse's license falls on.
2. Is the Florida Board of Nursing waiving any renewal requirements this year due to COVID?
According to the Florida Board of Nursing, no. Regular requirements for the 2022 renewal period are currently in place, such as continuing education completion and state fees.
3. What do I need to have ready when starting my renewal online with the Florida Board of Nursing?
Most nurses will only need fulfilled continuing education requirements and submitted documentation of them, along with a valid method of payment, to complete their renewal through the Florida licensing online portal (www.flhealthsource.gov).
4. Can I renew now, and complete my continuing education (CE) requirements later?
No. All Florida nurses must complete their CE requirements, and submit proof of completion to www.cebroker.com (if their CEU provider does not automatically submit documentation for them) before their renewal application will be processed by the Florida Board of Nursing.
5. Does Nursing CE Central submit proof of completed CEUs automatically to CE Broker? Or will I have to manually do that myself?
To make renewal as easy as possible, Nursing CE Central automatically and instantaneously reports all CEU completion to CE Broker! We are a certified, CE Broker provider and Florida nurses who take our courses will NOT have to manually upload course certificates to www.cebroker.com.
6. What happens if I don't renew my license before the 2022 deadline?
All nurses who miss their renewal deadline will need to file for a license reactivation if they wish to continue practicing in the state of Florida. The license reactivation process comes with additional fees and nurses must still meet continuing education requirements. You can request reactivation information by contacting the Board at [email protected] .
If you do not want to renew your license before it expires, you can retire it for a one time, $55 fee. This will put your license into a dormant state in which you can reactivate it when needed. If you take no action before your license expires, it will become delinquent, and then eventually fall null/void two years after its last expiration. Once it is null/void it can not be reactivated.
7. What are the continuing education (CE) requirements for the 2022 renewal period?
Nurses are required to complete 24 hours of appropriate CE during each renewal period, including two (2) hours relating to prevention of medical errors, two (2) hours in Laws and Rules in Nursing, (2) hours in Human Trafficking, and (2) hours in Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace every other biennium (every 4 years).
In addition to these 24 hours of general CE, every third renewal two (2) hours of domestic violence CE must be completed for a total of 26 hours.
(Nursing CE Central's 2022 Florida Renewal Bundle includes all of these required courses.)
